The family of a Kansas City man arrested in Benton County in a murder-for-hire plot have spoken out about his arrest.
Leo Mays, 49, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit capital murder. Our sister station WDAF spoke with Mays’ mother and brother. “This is the first time I’ve ever heard about this one. Yes, it’s kind of shocking, ” said the suspect’s mother, Loice Mays.
A release from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said Mays appeared in a Bentonville courtroom Tuesday (Jan 22) for a previous drug arrest. While he was in the area, he set up a meeting in which he asked an undercover detective to kill a local resident and discussed how much money he would pay for the job, investigators said. The undercover detective remained with Mays as he tried to contact the potential victim, the release states.
