(Memphis) While rapists may run free and victims continue looking for justice, the city of Memphis is asking the victims to trust them in handling the testing of thousands of untouched rape evidence kits.
This comes after the city betrayed rape victims trust for three decades.
Memphis City Council members asked for a monthly update on progress in getting DNA tests done on thousands of untested rape kits dating back 30 years.
Tuesday was the day for that update, but because of a pending lawsuit, council members got a very vague presentation, leaving them with more questions and fewer answers.
Here’s what we know. According to the city, 2,226 of the more than 12,000 previously untested rape kits have now been tested since WREG News Channel 3 broke the story of their existence.
